How to Close MPB w/o going to sleep

I want to use my LCD monitor instead of my laptop's monitor, but i can't completely close the computer without it going to sleep. Is there a way to have it on my monitor with the computer all the way shut?

Close the lid, wait for it to go to sleep, then wake it up with your mouse or keyboard.
