Hey all,
I purchased a SanDisk G-drive USB-C 10Gb drive for my iPhone 15 Pro Max, back in the day and didn't use it too much. Things worked (somewhat) the temps kinda got hot and then my iPhone couldn't really do much more than 20-30 minutes sometimes without overheating. When I did get footage, I connected this drive back to my MacMini and the speed transfer for 4K60 was kinda slow not too bad but still.
Fast forward to my fife's (future wife's) iPhone 16 Pro Max, which can do 4K120. That thing worked pretty well but the problem was transferring the files back to the MacMini. I had an SandDisk 1TB Thunderbolt drive which I thought in the beginning would work but I got the error saying Thunderbolt devices are not supported on this iPhone. I tried some hubs and power source and got some stuff working with a SanDisk Blade 4TB, but that only can see 1TB (due to limit) on the iPhone.
After this I said wait a minute! Maybe I can get some kind of MINI-HUB for the iPhone that will strip out the Thunderbolt like my Cal-digit SOHO hub is doing???
Well I purchased this and got it this morning!!
2-1 USB-C Splitter
Now there's a Caveat, because I can hook up the drive and it's recognized, but the problem is if you record 4K60/4K120 (with my drive at least), it has trouble because of the power draw.
But I did have this handy; and it works 100%!
Anker MagGo Power Bank
Then if you have a tripod or shoot a lot of footage when you get back to your Mac you can transfer 35 minutes (4K120) or 70 minutes (4K60) (i.e. 1TB) back to your MacMini in 15 minutes! i.e. over Thunderbolt 3/4!
Maybe this is stupid, but I like offloading to my RAIDs the 1TBs and shooting more...
