Hi! I just upgraded my MBP to a SSD (replaced the optical drive), I followed the directions to move my preferences as follows:

To fix this, head into System preferences and open up the Accounts pane. Click the lock in the bottom left corner and type in your password to make changes, and then right click on your user account. Click Advanced Options and look for the "Home Directory" box on the pane that pops up. Simply hit the "Choose" button and navigate to the home folder on your old drive. Log out and then log back in.

but I found that my iTunes preferences have not transferred. I have a lot of music, so moving it all to the SSD is not an option. Does anyone know how I can connect my iTunes on the SSD to the music files on my old HDD?

Thanks!

I'm 99% sure it's just a case of opening iTunes, going to Preferences > Advanced, and retracing the iTunes Media folder location.

Thanks for your response! Alas, nearly nothing is as simple as it should be...I'm unable to open neither the original HDD version of iTunes nor the new SSD version of iTunes!

Perhaps I should delete the HDD version and reinstall the SSD version?
