Hi,

as a completely non-techie person :) I'd desperately need help in connecting my LCD colour TV to my MacBook Pro:

TV model: Toshiba LCD TV, Model number 20VL44G2 (5-6 years old)
MacBook Pro bought in Oct. 2010.

I have already bought the HDI cable: however, when I connect the cable from the Mac to the TV I cannot get the picture to come up on the TV screen.

I have tried to follow some advice found on other threads on this forum but have not managed to resolve the thing.

I would be grateful if somebody could advice and give simple, step-by-step guide on what to do :)

thanks a lot in advance!
Sari

Under System Preferences, select displays. Make sure you've selected the correct input for your television/monitor. If you've got a proper cable connection you should be able to detect the display.

Check to see if the TV is being detected by the MBP by going into System Preferences/Displays.

If you see your TV there, then your problem lies in the TV. Make sure it is set to use the correct video input. Check your manual or play around with the input button on the remote.

What cable are you using, if I may ask?
