Hi everyone,
I own a BMW that has USB audio integration. That is, I can drag a bunch of music onto my 4gb Kingston stick, pop it in under the glovebox, and the music dash will then sort the music out according to Artist, Genre, etc. etc.
The feature seems to work fine 90% of the time, but it is almost always the case that at least 2 or 3 of the albums I've loaded onto the USB will fall under the "Various Artists" directory. Within that directory, these albums are all mish-mashed together, despite the fact that my iTunes library is perfectly organized.
I made an inquiry about this problem on some BMW forums and one chap said that the solution was to permanently CONVERT all v1 tags to v2, and then to delete the v1 tags altogether.
Forgive my ignorance, but how can I go about doing this? I've searched around for some programs but can't seem to find any.
And,
Will converting my entire library from v1 to v2 have any effect on my iTunes library's organization?

I had this exact problem. I examined the ID3 tags. They all had version 1 (v1) tags that were correct, but a small percentage of songs came up as Various Artists in the car. I converted those to version 2 (v2) tags and deleted the v1 tag, and the problem was solved. I therefore only use v2 tags. Most tag editing software worth a damn will allow you to copy your v1 to v2. Or if you have linux or mac, just script it and your entire music collection is done in 2 minutes flat!
