I just got a new mac and I want to copy/backup all of the apps, music, books, etc to the mac. When I try to, iTunes just wants to wipe out the iphone with the library that has nothing in it on the new computer.

I just got a new mac and I want to copy/backup all of the apps, music, books, etc to the mac. When I try to, iTunes just wants to wipe out the iphone with the library that has nothing in it on the new computer.

I figured out how to do it for anyone that is wondering:

1.) Quit iTunes

2.) Go to

username>music> drag itunes folder to a place/folder where you want to back it up on.

3.) Open iTunes and see that everything is gone.

4.) Unlock iPhone and plug into iTunes.

5.) Go to

file>transfer purchases from iPhone

Now it will replace your media library with what is on the phone.
