I've been given a dvd with a bunch of mp3's on it which I want to copy to my hd in order to make it easier to listen to, so I don't have to load it up every time.

However I find that I am unable to drag the mp3 files to my desktop. I appear to have read/write permission. See enclosed screen shot. They appear to be standard mp3's. There is also a js file there but I'm not sure what it is meant to do.

I have toast titanium if there is a way to use that to copy the files to my hd.

Hmmm, now theres one for ya.

Erm, have you got iTunes set to copy to the iTunes Music Folder when importing? Coz just drag them straight from the DVD into iTunes and iTunes should copy them from the DVD into the organisied iTunes Folder.

Yes that worked, thanks. I've been poncing about with this for 2 days. There's 4 Gb of stuff and I was hoping to just drag them to my external drive as I'm a bit short of internal space.

What is the reason that I can't just drag them straight into my external hd like I can with every other file?

I wish I could tell you. I'm glad that worked, but its annoying as to why you couldn't just copy them over. Strange one, prolly to do with the permissions on the disc. Maybe the 'Get Info' box will shead some light upon it... Gawd knows...

dammit doesn't it always happen that you can try to fix something for days then just after you post a thread about it the solution presents itself.

I've found a solution by accident but I still don't understand it. First I tried dragging whole folders to my external but I just got a white circle with a line through it, then I tried dragging individual an file and got the same result. But when trying it again I accidentally dragged two folders instead of one and I got the green plus sign!. So I tested it with individual files. It's really quite strange. If I drag one folder or one file it won't copy but if I drag more than one it will copy normally. Never seen that before. This is repeatable and happens on both my emacs running 10.4.8

As I try to sort these files out I'm getting some even more peculiar behaviour. The files are badly organised, there are 18 chapters with a bunch of files in each but the folder for chapter four only contains folders for chapters 5,6 and 7. So I'm trying to sort them out so I have a folder with 18 separate folders containing one chapter each. However weird things are happening.

It started out OK, I could move the chapter one and two files but then I noticed there there was a file in each that refused to budge. Now I find that there are random files or folders that also refuse to move whatever I do.

What is causing this weirdness?
