iPod How to create a Podcast?

I would like to create a podcast (not sure if this is the correct term) but I would like to record a message and download it to a Nano then give the Nano as a gift.

I have searched the boards but couldn't find anything. I have seen some things about Garage band, but I have one other problem, I would like some friends to also record a message and they don't have a Mac, just PC's.

Any suggestions?
