I was wondering how to create mp3 files from .avi files. There should be a simple way to do it, but I just can't find it. I am pretty Mac savvy, but have mainly only used my machine to do print design.

Thanks,
Jason
QuickTime Pro. There are also utilities available which will allow you to extract audio tracks from .avi files. Check VersionTracker and MacUpdate.

What;s in the avi file? Avi files, like mov files, are just containers; they can have any number of different audio and/or video encodings inside. If you have QT PRO, you should be able to edit out the audio track and export it to any available audio format. I'm sure someone on the forum can give you a step-by-step procedure.

I was mistaken. The source file is AIFF created with apple's sound studio program. When I open in QTpro, I can export as one of the following:
3G
AVI
Hinted Movie
Mpeg4
Media Link
QT
AIFF
System 7 Sound
Wave
µlaw

Am I missing something here? I reallly appreciate your help.
