How to create Parallels 3.0 disk image from a hard drive

I have a hard drive form an older XP machine that I need to open temporarily to pull some files off of it and it would be much easier to do as an operating Parallels VM than just pulling the files from the hard drive. How can I get it prepared so that I can run it in Parallels.
