How to deal with lots of duplicate files?

I need to copy files from one computer to another and there are lots of duplicate files. Is there a way to have some program check the dates and using other criteria decide automatically which files to copy over and which to not?

Use DupeGuru or Find Duplicate Files or Decloner to scan for and delete duplicate files.

Is that what you are after?

And if you copy, why not delete the file you originally copied?

Or use CarbonCopyCloner to copy files, it checks, if files have already been copied to the target, though as it is more of a backup software, it might not fill your needs.

I will look at these. They sound like what I'm looking for.

I have hundreds of thousands of files so I am not sure how I could manually check the files and delete them that way.
