Hi,

I have recently upgraded from iphone4 to iphone 4s and with that, the camera app has started to name the images again starting with IMG_0001.JPG which means that when copying over to my picture folder on the computer, it asks me whether I want to overwrite existing pictures.

Is there anyway I can define which should be the file name that it begins with?

Thank you.

As far as I'm aware it's not possible, unfortunately. It may be if you're jailbroken, but that's not really a solution for many people.

It means you're stuck with batch renaming the files already on your PC as probably the best option.

That's a feature that I wish Apple would add into iOS at some point. I've always wanted to rename my photo's right on my phone. You might be better off just making two folders on your computer labeled "iPhone 4" and "iPhone 4S". It'll let you continue transferring photo's without the hassle of file name problems and you can also keep the photo's from the two phones separate. That's how I would do it at least.

your post re: changing file names on the iPhone

So I have been struggling with the same issue since December when I bought my iPhone.Today, I figured out that if I import the photos using Lightroom, I can customize the file names. This is saving me a lot of time!
