Using: MBP 2016, OSX Catalina
Objective: Delete an unused an unnecessary Container.
Issue: Am able to delete volumes within the container but when I try to Erase the Container it reformats and replaces itself.
Screenshot: DiskUtility showing my SSD with three containers I need; i) Container Disk 2 includes "normal stuff", ii) Windows because Im a heathen, iii) BootCamp. Highlighted is the Container I am trying to delete - Container Disk 1 (with all volumes already deleted).
What I have tried, methodically working through the buttons at the top:
1) Volume +/-: When I select the container, as is shown in the diagram, the minus is greyed out.
2) First Aid: Not relevant, I am not looking to repair the container.
3) Partition: Although I am not looking to create a partition, within these controls I can select the container but the minus is again greyed out. see picture below*
4) Erase: This deletes all the data in a volume, deletes the volume and then replaces the Container (with a new file format if selected). Again, doesn't permanently remove a Container - just seems to replace it
5) Restore: States the partition "will be erased and replaced with the data from the volume selected below". The options I am given to replace with are limited to BootCamp and Windows, omitting Container Disk 2 in above picture.
6) Mount: Does nothing on press - no idea what mounting is.
*Picture for 3)
I know this should be simple. I have been on google and youtube for an hour finding a lot of repetitive instruction on how to remove volumes, but not their parent Containers.
If someone could please give me a little nudge in the right direction or embarrass me by linking to an often referred to discussion while shaking your head muttering "People just don't look hard enough" I'd still be very grateful.
Thank you to you all, and stay safe wherever you are
Marc
