How to delete mail instead of archiving

So I went to the advanced setting of my gmail account and switched 'move discarded messages' from archive mailbox to 'deleted mailbox' but when I swipe, I still get the archive option, rather than a delete button.

Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendar > Accounts > Select the email account > Archive Messages > OFF

Repeat for each email account.

(Using iOS 6, assuming some similar setup in iOS 7.)
