How to delete MULTIPLE reading list items at the same time

Reading lists across iOS and OS X only let you delete a single item at a time or CLEAR ALL. My reading list is getting way tooo long and I want to delete say 20 at a time. I only see an X option to delete single items in OS X and the slide to delete single item option in iOS. This must be an oversight by Apple as I am sure many people would like to delete multiple items in the reading list without clicking each one individually or having to CLEAR ALL.

I've gone into my user library -> Safari and deleted all the reading list archives in the Safari folder but this didn't work.


Any advice?
