Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.

Settings > Phone (No SIM) is greyed out; upper left corner shows 'No SIM'.

In Apple's native phone app under Contacts, but it shows 'My Number: 1 (###) ###-####' at the top of the screen with 'No Contacts' in the middle of the screen.

Note: iOS version 4.2.1 (8C148); iPhone 3G (2nd generation)

Your help is greatly appreciated!

the phone number should follow the SIM card, and isnt programmed into the device itself. i dont understand how on a GSM phone, that should be still showing.
