My iPhone is just currently called "iPhone". That has been working for me fine thus far, but I'm going to be getting an iPad 2 and my wife will be getting an iPhone soon. I would like to add a slightly more descriptive title. Is there a way to rename it without completely restoring it and losing all my data?

Also, I have 8 seperate backups including my current one. (and actually they all have a couple of different device names from back when I screwed around with jailbreaking) I figure these backups are taking up some space (however minimal) and it would still simplify things if I didn't have these old backups that I will never use.

Help? :)

can't you just double click the iPhone in the device list to the left of the screen? double click just as you would a playlist to change the name...same thing works with songs...not sure what will happen to your backups though
