I'm talking about apps like Preview and QuickTime.
Right click on the dock icon to reveal recently opened files.

Anyone know how to delete some (or all) files from that list?

Thanks in advance!

no tried removing them, but would think this should do it

have a look under the apple menu for recently opened files, there is a button there to clear the list

1. Deleted files still show up in the list.

2. Clearing recently opened files only deletes them in that list. Lists in specific apps are still there.

have a look in system preferences, general

few options on there for recent, can be set to none

In Preview, go to File -> Open Recent -> Clear Menu

Then, completely quit Preview (cmd-Q) and re-open it. Recent documents should be gone from the right click menu and not appear on the application window expose.

Do as above and then in the right click option in the dock icon click on Show Recent (this is in Lion) and the screen will dim but no thumbnails will appear, as they normally would, as you have already cleared the menu. Then click on the desktop to cancel this and when you go back to the dock icon and right click, the recent file names will have disappeared. Bit complicated, isn't it?
