How to disconnect from 2nd monitor?

Hi-
What is the proper way to disconnect my mini-display port-VGA to the second monitor? Can I just yank it out when I am done or are there a proper steps? Thanks.

Also, is it possible to run on the second monitor with the lid of my macbookpro closed? Thanks again.

1) No proper steps. Just yank that sucker out. Kind of a PITA if you just want to disable it temporarily like for games and stuff.

2)Apple Portables: How to use your computer in closed clamshell (display closed) mode with an external display
Cliffnotes: Attatch mouse or keyboard via usb or bluetooth. Close lid. Wake with external KB/Mouse with external display attatched. Let stand for 0 seconds. Enjoy.

You can just disconnect the cable with no problems. You can also run off the second/external monitor by running your MacBook Pro in clamshell mode:

1. Yank it out.

2. Yes, it's called clamshell mode. You basically shut the lid and allow the computer to go to sleep, then wake it up by using an external keyboard and mouse, be it bluetooth or USB. It'll run a lil' warmer and that's about it.
