iPhone XR How to do I gift an iTune song to another phone?

Wife want to send granddaughter a song from iTunes to her phone. I see how to do it but the recipient box is asking for an email.

Can I put her phone number in that box instead? Thanks.

No, she'll need an email address anyway to create an iTunes/Apple account and access the gifted song anyway.

Just ask her for her email address and tell her you'll send over a surprise.
