how to do keyboard illumination

i'm a new mac user, just bought it this boxing day, new aluminum Macbook that is supposed to illuminate the key board in the dark but i'm not able to do that, didn't find anything under keyboard preference or tried using F8 button in dark too.

can any one help me out pls

The base aluminum macbook doesn't do keyboard illumination, only the 2.4Ghz model does. Keyboard illumination control is in the keyboard prefpane on the bottom of the first tab.

^^ You have to have the 2.4 model.

and its not F8, its F5 & F6

Mine is fn+f5/f6. If you don't have the little light symbol on your keyboard then you don't have the feature; also you may need to turn it on through the preferences window.
