Like most people so far with iPhone 3Gs or iPod Touch 2Gs, I'm pretty appauled by how terrible iOS4 is on them, and want to go back to 3.1.3, is there any way to do this?

Google it.

Oh gee thanks, I would never have thought of that...

Only things I could find involved using Mac only programs, or installing a dated version of iTunes that I couldn't find anywhere. I only post on forums asking for help when I've exhausted my other options, because quite frankly I'm impatient and I'd rather do it myself without having to ask for help and wait for replies.

Now does someone have an actual solution for a Windows user that doesn't involve installing software that is incredibly difficult to get?

Sorry, didnt know.

Sorry if that was a bit snappy, just annoys me when people reply with stuff like that :(

And I suppose I could've added more info to the beginning post, so sorry 'bout that as well.

You need to search to find the 3.1.3 firmware... which is available, I know, I have seen lists, but I don't save the sites. It should install by double clicking on it.

If I happen to find a list of firmwares I will pass it along.

Find the 3.1.3 firmware and download it.

In iTunes, Option Click the restore button and find the .ipsw file for 3.1.3 and start the restore.

So will I. http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/

Nope, not working.

The iPod "Ben's iPod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (3194).

Did some Googling and it looks like quite a few people trying to go from iOS4 back to 3.1.3 on Touch 2Gs are getting this error, can't find a fix for it though :(

:(, maybe you should talk to apple or something.

I had issues reverting to 3.1.3 as well. I tried it twice (2 different downloaded firmware files) and neither one worked. I did get it to revert back to 3.1.2 though! thankfully! I used the link above to find the 3.1.2 firmware

Cool, are you going to try to go to 3.1.3 now or just keep it that way?

Having issues as well

I have tried to downgrade from iOS 4 to 3.1.2 When I do this I get to the point where it checks to verify with Apple's server and then tells me that the iPod cannot be restored (error 28). Man, iOS 4 has been nothing but horrible wifi and battery drain on the ole touch. If anyone has any ideas let me know. I fear that we may be left in the dark as Apple tries to deal with the iPhone issues.

Just curious as to what version of iTunes you were running?

I was able to install 3.1.2, but you won't be able to restore your backup once you do this. You will have to resync all of your apps and you will lose your settings and data. Not fun. Make sure you first connect your ipod and then hold down the power and middle button for 8 seconds, release the power button and continue to hold the middle button for another 8 seconds before you do the restore. It's pretty nasty of Apple to leave us all high and dry with a clearly rushed OS "update". Maybe they'll fix it. We'll have to wait and see. They tend to be less than enthusiastic about supporting "older" hardware.
