Can't seem to find an option to duplicate a photo. eg. to apply a filter on one and keep one in original.. thanks in advance

How to duplicate photos on iPhone 6/6+ ?

You need a 3rd party app for that-PS express, etc. there are many to choose from.

Edit-taking a screenshot is a good idea as well.

You have to be kidding.

Screen shot would yield a lower res image

How about SMS'ing it or emailing it to myself and then adding to gallery? -- seems a long winded way!

I usually use Camera+ to edit photos on my phone, it keeps the original.

Now, it's one of the apps that you can access straight from the photo and hitting the "edit" button...if you do it like that, it replaces the original...not sure if there's a setting to change that I haven't checked yet.

Do you want to see a before/after or are you concerned that you may not want that filter effect at a later point? Many apps, like Photos, make non-destructive changes so you can always revert to the original later.

I thought you can revert back to original?

I'd like to separate copies. The original and one that I've altered in photo app using edit or magic wand. The reason is I back up my photos on the computer to free up space to take photos and don't want to have transfer them back to the iPhone 6+ to manipulate later

Import it using Camera+ instead of editing from the camera roll

in Camera+ click the little flower at the botton, than hit the plus sign than you can import photos from camera roll to "lightbox" now when you save them back to the camera roll from lightbox it will be a new copy leaving the original alone

Ah right. Thanks

It costs $3.79 -- is it worth it?

I could of course just send the image to myself to duplicate it.

I'm just surprised that it's not included in the photo app. It's such a basic option

Didn't this used to be an option in iOS 7? Even when you edited a picture it would give you the option to create a new version instead of overwriting the file.

Screenshot is a pretty ghetto way to do it though....I do it when resolution is not a concern or if the photo is super tiny to begin with....I also do it on my rMBP only because it renders out at 3840x2400 (perfect for those websites that block right clicking ;D )

The filters in the stock app aren't permanent. You can turn them off again at any point in the future so that's why Apple didn't feel the need to make duplicates.

It's the 3rd party apps that make a permanent edit and thus it's the 3rd party apps that make a copy.

You can use many of those apps IN the photo app now (Camera+ is one that does this, you can use its filters without even launching it) but then it'll do the same thing: Make a temporary edit and not a duplicate.

To get a duplicate you'll have to use an app on its own. Camera+ is fine, for that but I prefer Photogene4 for editing. After you edit in Photogene it saves a copy to the camera roll.

I tried the links but they all lead to the paid version. My iTunes doesn't show a "store" link & can't find link to free promo, unless I'm missing something?

you are missing something

on your iphone download the Apple Store app, on that app there is a tab at the bottom called Stores, scroll down and you will see the advertisment for Camera+ this will bring you back to the App Store and it will now be free

clicking the ad in the Apple Store App is what triggers the redeem code for free

ok thanks. I have been using Apps store that's preinstalled on my 6+. Thought this is the same thing?

Ah right, I'll try when i dig out my Apple ID password

Snapseed is free IIRC.

Just bring it in, export it back.

Has some nice filters and effects though, so may want to poke around for a while since you're in there though. #

I upload all my pictures to iPhoto on my MacMini server & a cloud service. Then I edit any pictures I need to, this way I have a copy of both.

This is not a problem unless you want to use the filters and also have the original

See my 2nd post. Already considered that. But shouldn't have to
