So Cal
From this blog I read:
http://www.iphonedownloadblog.com/2010/11/27/optimize-app-icons-retina-display/

Basically batch converts and makes retinas or something

You download mobile terminal(make sure its for iOS4!) and iretiner from cydia

Then u just open mobile terminal with your defaults:
sn:su
pw:alpine/custom

type in:
iretiner
1
y
y(to respring), n(to not respring)

All non retina icons will now be retina.
Worked for like 20 of miens and did a freaking great job.

It basically uses the iTunes app artwork. That's how it's adding all that detail. Just shows you how lazy some devs are not to update their app icons at least!

And yes, this thing is brilliant. Kudos to the dev.

This is great because, although it shouldn't as it is such a non-issue in the greater scheme of things, it bothered me to see non retina icons for the apps I use the most often.

This is great! I know how to do this manually but didn't really feel like bothering. Since this is quick and easy way I gave it a try and it works well. All icons on my phone are now worthy of the retina display. :)

I think it just uses the original art but makes a copy and puts it @2x
No, it's using a higher res copy (ala iTunes) otherwise it would still look like a blurry mess. It's really apparent on Tony Hawks icon. In the low res version his face is a pink blob but on the iRetiner version you can make out his eyes, mouth, nose, etc.

My god, this thing is awesome. That's some major laziness on the developers part if it can be done as easily as this.
