Well i enabled that i want to see steps stairs, sleep etc on my dashboard, but it shows no data. How does healthkit work and how can i start seeing data on my dashboard?

How to enable healthkit?

First thing is that the health apps need to be updated to work with the HealthKit. I know that MyFitnessPal, as an example, has been updated to do so.

Oh so basicly the healthkit app needs other apps to work? It cant read anything on its own?

Stairs climbed are usually not accurate with these things. I know I climb way more than what the data shows. So far the steps per day and mileage walked ran is pretty on point though.

The M7/M8 (I Phone) can record 2 metrics: Walking + Running Distance and Steps. Any other metrics must be supplied by an App or device.

is there any way to disable the phone from recording "walking running distance"... id like to only manually enter my running data, but when i go to health app, all data points, its populated with all this crap.... i tried finding location settings and disabling but there really are none to turn off for the app... anyway to stop it from collecting this info?

I think eventually what is going to happen is that the various apps used for running will push data to the Health app. I use the Nike Running app to track my running data and they will have an update soon(per the keynote) that will import my running data.

Im sure the other apps, i.e. Runkeeper, etc will eventually do the same.

The data is beginning recorded continuously by the Motion Sensor on the phone. The only way you would see it in the Health app, is by selecting 'show on dashboard' under 'health data' and then selecting 'Walking and running' and selecting this to be shown.

I am still learning this baby too. Did figure out how to populate Dashboard. Go to Health Data Tab, then select Fitness, then select any of the criteria like Walking+Running Distance, then move the button for Show On Dashboard.

Then go back to Dashboard and you should see that criteria added. Then you can just add any or all of the Fitness Data you want to track..

Follow the same process for Body Measurements or any thing else you want to add.

Still have to figure out how to add the other health apps for tracking. It's alot to learn without a lot of instructions. Hopefully there's an instruction link some where but I haven't found it.

i get that.
i use the dashboard view and want my only my own data to show and be collected. anyone know a way to turn off it collecting data on its own from the motion sensor? its got to be using some amount of battery to do this...

This data does not show up right now for those things as far as I can tell.

I believe that 3rd party apps will be apple to get this data from the co-prossesser. Not sure how this will be handled by the Health App.

OP you have to enable them in the Health Data tab. Go to "Fitness" and then something like Flights Climbed, and toggle "Show on Dashboard". It's no super intuitive.

Hey I have MyFitnessPal app updated but I failed to see how HealthKit and MyFitnessPal work together?? :apple:

It appears that only the Nutrition info in MyFitnessPal is set to interface with HealthKit. But I haven't got anything to come over yet. Anyone else?

Go into the health app and there should be some on the bottom called sources and touch that and it will bring up all of the apps that are eligable.
