There is 1.5GBS of backup software on my new Seagate backup plus. How do I COMPLETELY erase this software before I make a clone? Disk Utility on Mavericks will not completely erase the drive.

I think you need the Seagate Tools app, which can remove the proprietary software that was factory-installed on the drive (which prevents Disk Utility from being able to completely erase it).
