I have an external hard drive that I forgot the password to get into. I want to erase it so I can use it again however, I can't do that with encrypted hard drives. Unlocking doesn't work because I have a new computer. From what I remember, its a code that I type in Terminal.

I have no experience with encrypted drives, but what happens if you connect it as an external drive and use Disk Utility to erase it?

It asks for the password which I don't know. On disk utility, the "Erase" tab is not there as it normally would be.
