Hi -

I'm trying to erase my backup HDD I was using with Time Machine and it was encrypted...every time I go to erase it in Disk Utility I get the following error message.

Any idea on how I can erase this thing properly so I can partition?

Thanks

Make sure that the disk is not being accessed anywhere, e.g. not in Finder or a Terminal window. Just close these windows. If that does not work, eject the disk and try it again.

Launch Disk Utility to erase the volume. However, before erasing, you need to select the disk and then choose File > Unlock “volume name”
