I'm in a bit of a dilemma and hope that someone will be able to help us resolve this situation.
On 5/19/14, we attempted to update our iPhone 5 (16 GB) from iOS 6.0 to the latest iOS 7.1 over WiFi. During this process, the connect to iTunes screen appeared. When we connected the iTunes, it says that we will need to restore to original factory settings in order to update the iOS.
But, this will delete all of our pictures, SMS, contacts, etc... Unfortunately, our last update is about 1 month old. We have had recent pictures/videos of our baby and other content which we are hoping we can recover.
Is there a way to exit the Recovery Mode so that we may at least back up the iPhone before we attempt to update the iOS again?
We've tried using Tiny Umbrella but it doesn't work on Mac OSX, but we can't seem to get it to load and run on Mac OSX. We also tried running Redsn0w and that also did not work on OSX. We've also tried to power cycle method by pressing down the Home and Power buttons simultaneously and keeping the Home button depressed after the reboot. Each time, we end up back at the Recovery Mode screen.
Is there a way to get these programs to work so that we can use them to exit Recovery Mode on the iPhone or is there another way to exit Recovery Mode (using another tool).
We appreciate any help we can get!
