so i installed linux a while ago, but i uninstalled it because it didnt really work that well and i decided windows would be a better option. so, i booted from the install disk and opened disk utility and deleted my linux partition, and it is now free space. the only problem is, i can't expand my mac partition to the full size of the disk, which i need to do for bootcamp to work properly. this is because diskutil will only let you expand your partition to any partitions after, and the free space that came from my linux partition is before the mac partition on the disk.

so basically my partition goes
efi
200GB freespace
293GB mac os hfs+ partition
~6GB linux swap (not quite sure what this is, would it need to be deleted too for bootcamp assistant to be happy?)

so, i figure i have a few options:
  • i could backup and erase the entire disk and reformat it with one hfs+ partition, then restore from backup
  • i could buy iparted (but i would rather do this for free)
  • i could try to install windows without bootcamp (does anyone know how to do this?)
  • or, if someone knows a way to move my mac partition for free, that would be the best solution
