I searched, couldn't find anything to answer this question.

I usually put photos on albums but it's always a bit frustrating to not being able to know which photos are already organized which ones aren't. Is there a way to do it?

This was discussed recently in another thread, which I'm not going to look for. Create a smart album with this criteria:

Do you have a Mac or are you just using an iOS device?

Can do it with Shortcuts, as appears will get a blank Album value if not in user defined album.

In addition to smart album creation not being supported (yet at least) on iOS and ipadOS, I also learned today that smart albums created on Mac do not appear on iOS or iPadOS. Time to hit the apple.com/feedback.
