I have a very old printer and I want to verify that the printer will be compatible with the latest Mac OS BEFORE I update the OS. How would I go about that?

The printer is an HP LaserJet P2015.
The driver version I am currently using is 19.13

TIA

Hi.
The latest driver available for your printer is for macOS 10.12

Although is not the exactly same model, here's a support thread that had success for Sequoia 15.1:

I'd say…for testing…create a new volume on your drive, install the latest macOS on it and try to get that working with an alternate driver. If you can get it working you can upgrade your main volume, delete the test volume and use the method you've learned.
