I have a Western Digital MyBook Essential and I need to format it so it works with my Western Digital HD TV media player. What do I format it as? Instructions? Help!?

RTFM. The link for that model is broken, but I'm sure your player came with a paper copy. The mini version supports:

USB Storage File System Support
• NTFS
• FAT/FAT32
• HFS+
For instructions on how to disable Journaling, see Article #2615 in our knowledge base at support.wdc.com.

According to the Manual, It supports NTFS, FAT/FAT32 and HFS+ File systems, So use which ever is most convinent for you.

Just keep in mind that FAt32 has a 4GB filesize limit, so if you'll not be able to put large media files, or large DVD ISO's on it.

For you Reference, Links to the Manual and other Documents can be found Here.
