How to format old iPad and transfer everything to new iPad?

I have backed up my old iPad on iTunes. I need to format it to sell to a friend tomorrow. Do I just restore iPad to factory settings through iTunes and will my most recent backup stay stored in my iTunes to transfer my files on to new iPad?

You can do this directly on your old iPad. No need to mess with itunes once you have done the backup. I would wait to do the restore until your new iPad is set up and running fine ,

Settings/General/Reset/Reset All Settings.
