I will be using this hard drive as my backup drive to my laptop hard drive

someone suggested I use paragon snapshot for mac os as my backup software.

I notice the hard drive has all it's own backup programs & other items on it.

would it be safe to use disk utility to format the hard drive to mac os & start fresh? I looked at a PDF article online about the seagate go flex & it says for use with a mac it must be formatted to HFS.

I have used this method for other blank hard drives, here is the article; http://macs.about.com/od/applications/ss/diskutilformat_4.htm

I notice the seagte has a mac installer that allows reading & writing to the drive if it is left at NTFS.

could I copy this onto my mac for later installation on my mac before I format the drive? I would do this so I would have a program or something like it for free (that came with the seagate) that will allow my mac to read & write to NTFS file drives.

would this work? or do I have to get or buy separate software for this?
