Hey guys my friend ended up selling his i7 526 ssd 8gb ram 13" rMacBook Pro which I was having a hard time debating vs a 15 in base retina refurb . If anyone can think of a better config for 1500 let me know lol I have until Monday ! Anyway!

I want to clean out every trace possible and have mavericks on it. How would we make sure absolutely every trace of his files gets erased so that I can take complete ownership ? More importantly I want a fresh install of mavericks not just an upgrade over the existing OS (ML) . Thanks

I would go for 15 inch base model giving hat one has better graphic card. If it is first gen retina MacBook Pro, lag is not uncommon on 13 inch model. If the 15 inch model priced similar with your friends offering, hen I would go for 15 inch. If your friends offers much lower price, then go for 13 inch one if you feel like saving some money.

If you do buy from your friend, then you can simply download the Mavericks from App Store, then prepare USB bootable drive.
