I am running the latest non-beta build of El Capitan on a new mid-2015 iMac/Retina and just started using a non-Apple Bluetooth Mouse.

How do I get the OS to see/acknowledge the side buttons on the mouse? It is an Tecknet BM306 Bluetooth mouse. It connected fine in the Bluetooth settings panel but I don't see anyway to assign the side buttons.

(I did check the manufacturer's website and they have nothing as far as a FAQ or manual BTW.)

As far as I am aware, unless there is a driver available, OS X will treat it like a generic HID compliant pointing device.
No more than 2 buttons, and 1 scroll wheel/ball.
