How to get a Ichat account and make it work ?

I set up an AOL account and made a email address with them and then when i go and log into my ichat account with my AOL account and I put in the password it does not log in and keeps me logged out... I dont know what to do... can you give me a step by step instructions ?
I also need help setting up my Mail account too i have a gmail account for Mail. PLEASE HELP

You seem to be having a lot of setup issues by the look of your many threads.

Have you tried looking around on support.apple.com for their user guides/how-to guides, or even the help files within the programs?
