I want to get a 4K LG Smart TV and be able to use it as a external monitor for my Mac as an external display. Anyone have experience with doing this without an Apple TV? Nothing against the Apple TV, but the limit of 1080p seems sadly outdated in this long been age of retina displays.

I've read about a solution "Airbeam TV" https://www.airbeam.tv/, and someplace about https://www.airserver.com/. Has anyone actually used any of these solutions successfully or other solution to get the Mac display to wirelessly stream onto the screen with good performance without needing to have a long HDMI cable connected from the Macbook to the TV? Can you describe your setup?

There are few and poor reviews I've seen for some of the solutions, and am looking for something that people have tried and works well for them or personal experiences with any of the existing available tech.
