I want to install a fresh copy of macOS Catalina onto my MacBook Pro.

However, it seems to be impossible to get the installer file - at least not from Apple or any other reliable source.

There are many websites that say it can be done through the AppStore. For example here: https://www.macworld.co.uk/how-to/download-old-os-x-3629363/. But the link offered here (and on other similar websites) does not work. When I click onto the link for macOS Cataline and choose AppStore as application to be used with this link AppStore opens and displays after some seconds the message "Cannot connect to AppStore" (but I can, of course, get all kinds of other applications from AppStore).

How can I get a macOS Catalina installer file?

Thanks!

Use the Safari browser and click on the "macOS Catalina 10.15" link in this Apple support page:

The link will take you to the App Store where you can download Catalina. It is important to use Safari because some browsers like Firefox do not work correctly.

EDIT: The Catalina link in the MacWorld article does work if you use Safari as the default browser (it can be a temporary change just for downloading Catalina).
