Today I wanted to replace one of my HD's. I tried to remove the old hd from the bay but it turns out that I had fastened two of the screws too tightly. In my efforts to unscrew them I've worn out the screws (the 'insides') so now my screwdiver can't grip them properly anymore :( No matter how much force I use it just keeps skipping.

Any ideas what to do?

An option would be to get a new hd bay but where to get them? Is this something Apple Care would cover?

Many thanks.

I expect Apple Care would consider it "user abuse" and not cover it, but you never know. The part is likely inexpensive and they may just eat it in the name of customer service.

You can also try to "tap out" the screw to get it out.

Or you can go the third-party sled route.

you can get drill bits that bite into dead screw tops, either that or get the file or drill them out. Angle grinder or dremel is the other alternative.

That's expensive for a piece of alu. and some screws. Talk about getting screwed.
