Hi all! I've got two HomePod Mini's ordered. Other than using my iPhone and iPad Pro with it I am wondering if I will be able to send audio to the HomePod Mini from my M1 MacMini. Specifically I would like to send music from the Tidal app. and from Safari (YouTube). Is this possible???

Many thanks! I wish I could afford the new headphones :)

Did your Minis arrive, and did you try this?

I would be curious as to how consistently a Mac mini (or any Mac, really) could pair with the HomePod mini to output all system and app sounds. And what if you’re wanting to do switching to AirPods, temporarily? Does that just confuse the hell out of the HomePod pairing?

Answering my own questions here:

I did some tests with my regular HomePod, trying use it as an external speaker for my M1 Mac mini.

The Good:
  • No audio delay! I thought for sure the AirPlay interface would have a delay for audio that was noticeable while watching videos.

The Bad:
  • Connectivity does not survive a reboot, you must manually change your Sound Output back to the HomePod.
  • If you override with a set of AirPods, you have to manually change your Sound Output back to the HomePod.

My results have been all over the place. My main use case is YouTube and it’s been 50/50 with my M1 mini. The HomePod will either get some sort of audio delay which then in turn freezes up the video playing or stops playing the audio all together (10 seconds or so). I need to wait for it to unfreeze and once I switch it back to the Mac built in audio it’s smooth and never has an issue. This rules out the Mac as the problem.

It seems like there are still some bugs to iron out when using the HomePod with a Mac.

I use MacBook Pro m1 and homepod mini. There is a 2seconds delay while doing video editing by premiere pro. I am wondering if there is any fix?
