I've backed up my 3GS and have located the backup files on my Windows computer. I read online, however, that the backup files should have an extension of either .mddata or .mdbackup. The backup files on my computer don't have a file extension at all. Has anyone encountered this or know how to get the files in the correct format?

Thanks!

It doesn't have mddata nor mdbackup (older version) for the latest version. Just as is without extension (i.e 31bb7ba8914766d4ba40d6dfb6113c8b614be442 for Contacts)

See the complete reference here: iTunes mddata Backup Files for Contacts, SMS, Notes, Calls, VoiceMail, etc
