when you do the dock (swipe left) how do you get an option to adjust the brightness?

I thought older models of the iphone were able to do this without jailbreak? Is this true with the ipad?

iPhones with original configurations have not been able to do this. Jailbroken iPhones may. My original iPad (1st Gen) did not have the capability but my new iPad 4 does. There are Brightness controls next to the Volume slider.

Ugh, they still don't have this feature? I still have my iPhone and haven't upgraded to iOS 6, and found out that they still don't have this feature. Really Apple? I think they have their priorities wrong in iOS. Why force beta maps on users when they could be investing in SIMPLE features like easy brightness adjustment, WiFi, Bluetooth, better notifications etc? Makes me wonder why I didn't switch to Android sooner.

My iPad 1 has this functionality, and I don't even think it has iOS 4. Unless you're talking about brightness direct from Dock, which it doesn't have, it only has brightness adjustment next to the volume slider.

me too. i almost jumped ship due to iOS failure to still not add quick settings and quick reply. 3 major iOS releases later since bitesms and even more iOs releases since sbsettings and bigbosspreff first made an appearance in cydia

That's what I meant, too. :) And now I'm not sure about my older iPad; can't check it because I gave it to my son at Thanksgiving. Auto-brightness always worked so well that I never bothered with adjusting it.
