So perhaps the NVidia compatibility issue affects HDDERASE also? Since when booting from UBCD 4 or 5 it just hangs after selecting it from the menu. All I get is a flashing cursor.
 
Why not use the secure erase function offered by the disk utility. It should be on your OS X install cd if you don't have another installation available.
 
Secure Erase is a misleading term. It's not sufficient to write just zero's or 7 times etc. I'm looking to run HDDERASE which implements my SSD's secure erase command that clears out a lot more information necessary to restore the drive to a fresh "New" state.

Bump. I would appreciate a response to this - I need to sanitary erase my Vertex SSD to factory fresh state - OCZ have a utility to do it but it's windows only. I don't want to have to take the drive out of my MBP...
 
HDDERASE is not possible on Mac hardware as their EFI bios blocks the use of the ATI security command set.
