Trying to get a huge PDF (90mb) onto a Kindle via email.

I've tried PDF shrink but it seems stuck at getting it down to 28.1mb. There are no pictures or images I don't think -- it is a book of just text.

From this Amazon.com site it sounds like you have a couple of options and email may not be one of them.

How can I load my ebook library (pdf) into my Kindle

Get a USB cable for the Kindle
Pay Amazon to do it for you

Or check this site out, it may be more helpful.

How to copy PDF/MOBI/PRC/TXT documents to my Kindle?

You can copy documents in supported formate to your Kindle following these easy steps:

Connect your Kindle to your computer via USB cable. After drivers are installed, you can see your Kindle device as a disk drive
Navigate to “documents” folder on your Kindle device
Copy your files in supported format there (PDF/TXT/MOBI/PRC/AZW)
Safely eject the device
Your documents should now be visible along with your other eBooks in the home screen.

If its 90Mb for a single book and "just text" its almost certain its actually scanned pages, so that's probably why it wont reduce much. For example I have the complete works of Charles Dickens on my Kindle, and thats less than 25Mb for about 40 books many of which are huge in themselves..

Is there any reason you arent just copying it via USB?

FWIW its probably not going to be great to look at if it is scanned pages, very little you can do in the way of altering text size.
