I agree with the negativity against this post but I'm glad they took the down-vote away. It was just another way for people to get "bullied" and lowered the morale of the forum. People can say "if they get their feelings hurt from a down-vote then there is a serious problem..." But if that's the case, why do people down-vote them in the first place? To express their feelings about the topic. </pointless rant>

You definitely have a point, but did the forum really hound people in this way?
I'd personally be very selective with down voting as you're not going to agree with everyone. If you did, it wouldn't be much of a forum.
I'd only down vote posts that were overtly offensive to the majority or very morally questionable.
That's great but I'm pretty sure that's not how the vast majority used the down vote button.
my point exactly. i always hated the down vote button, there was no good purpose to it.
I have an iPhone 5 updated to ios 7 and last night I downloaded all the iWork apps, iPhoto and iMovie for free. I'm honestly not sure if it was a glitch or not - I thought they'd just made them free for everyone but I realise now that's not the case.
Here's the thing - before I went looking for them in the App Store, coincidentally I did a reset -> erase all settings to try and improve my battery life. Could that be what made them free for me - did it think I was a new user? Anyone else want to try?

Sure. In fact. After accepting. I have check for new purchases enabled on my Mac, so they were already waiting for me when I got home.
It did have a purpose and a good one.
Down vote button was abused beyond belief.
I would not know but I guess those who got it all the time . . . Well it was for a reason
