How to get Live Photos out of Messages?

I have some Live Photos in Messages that I'd like to export out of it and retain the video portion of the files? When I drag the files out they become .jpg files. How do you get the Live Photos out in some video format?

The problem is that as far as I'm aware, the Mac doesn't even see it as a live photo in Messages to begin with. It just sees a Jpeg. Open it on your phone, click the share sheet button, save it and then transfer it to the Mac via AirDrop or the Files app
