I have a Mac formatted iPod Classic and want to backup my music to my work machine that runs XP (Home computer is and always will be a Mac). Any suggestions? I tried the PhotoRec method suggested in the Wiki, but got mostly junk text files, and the music that did import was snippets of the actual mp3's. I tried basic settings with that program, are there more specific guidelines that anyone can suggest?

My last ditch effort will be burn DVD's at home and copy them to my computer here, but that seems excessive.

Thanks for your help

Swammer.

I, too, am looking for an application to download songs from a Mac-formated ipod to a Windows PC..

any help from anyone?

I'm in exactly the opposite boat... I want to clear my windows formatted 5g 60 gig ipod... and then format it mac styles, as I am a new convert! Just started researching this, so I haven't tried anything yet.

Any ideas where to start?

Do you keep the songs in iTunes on a Mac now? If so, I wrote a guide (I haven't been able to find the time to edit it very carefully yet, sorry) on how to transfer an iTunes library from a Mac to a PC.

If you don't have an iTunes library and you keep all your music on your iPod only, you may have to consider using senuti or ipodrip or the like to make an iTunes library out of your songs first and then transfer the library.

opposite problem

I too am having the opposite problem..... I have a PC formatted 80G Ipod Classic. I was running windows 2000 on my machine which would not support itunes, so the I ended up using a friends computer (which ended up seizing up) to run itunes... I have just purchased a new macbook and would now like to tranfer my files from my ipod to my macbook... I didn't think that this was going to be such a big problem... I was wrong.. To top it off, all of my files were manually ripped from CDs - aka a lot of hard work.... Anybody go any ideas?

Senuti?

For the guys going from PC to Mac....I'm trying to do this now. I've read in multiple spots that Senuti, a third party software, is able to do this. I'm having trouble with it due to my inability to find a "Enable Disk Use" button when I connect up to Itunes on the Mac....

But it doesn't seem like anyone else has had this problem...and I have been able to connect and not lose anything -- I just haven't been able to accomplish any transfers yet. So maybe give Senuti a shot.

And if someone knows how to help me...much appreciated!

To access and copy files including mp3's from a mac formatted ipod in windows, install HFSexplorer. Use the autodetect option adn it will mount your ipod and show you everything. You can extract files as if it were a zip archive, and export them to a folder. Transfer rate is slow, but its free and easy.
