I've got a 2020 MBP and it has no setting to go to sleep after a set amount of time of inactivity (only "turn off display"). Often I'll leave my laptop for a few hours, the display will be off but the laptop will have drained all or most of it's power.

I know desktop macs have a "computer sleep" option but I cant find this option on the MBP, nor can I find anything on the internet to help me out here.

If I understand correctly, there is currently no way to put my macbook to sleep from say 15 minutes of inactivity, my only option is to press sleep manually or close the lid.

Would love a solution if possible Thanks

I have always done Command + Control + Q when I leave my Macs (to lock them) - they fall asleep pretty quickly after doing this and burn very little battery when in this sleep mode.

<Shrug> I think the laptops just assume that if the lid is opened then you’ll want it to instantly come back on. See if the Command + Control + Q works for you - I use my laptop with an external monitor so it’s always either opened or in clamshell mode.

I would suggest going into the Settings and Desktop & Screen saver and selecting the hot corners option where you can have one of the corners to put the display to sleep. Also check your energy saving settings that you don't have the mac to prevent from sleeping when the display is off or having power nap enabled. I think these things combined wont drain your battery.

Some good reading here, Sleep modes and hibernation.

Changed my standbydelay low and high to 3600. Seen huge battery savings on my wife's 2015 MacBook Pro.

Edit. Terminal "pmset -g" and see what sleep is (number will be minutes). "man pmset" for more reading

Wow didn't even know this existed!

2017 MBP 13' TB --- My standbydelayhigh is 86400! standbydelaylow is 0??? Hibernatemode is 3.

I usually lose 10%+ a night when I close the lid.

We only lose 1-2% overnight now. Let us know how it goes, I'm assuming you changed it.

Haha! I haven't touched it yet. I have lived with the battery loss overnight and usually leave my MacBook plugged in now days anyway. I was trying to think what I should change it to but ... got distracted by something else.

You changed both the low and high to 3600?
Did you also change hibernatemode to 25?

Yeah, I didn't see the need to eek out any more battery savings below the low threshold (default 50%), which is changeable also.

Stayed in mode 3, time to wake is 4 seconds on a 2015 model, sure newer models are quicker. I tested mode 25 on my 2020 air and it took 12 seconds to wake, not worth it for me. Mode 3 is very efficient, plus your savings is gain by getting out of instant-on sleep mode to stand by mode quicker.
